The concept of Intuitive Eating sounds exciting, and intriguing (and it makes sense!)… yet at the same time you're still feeling out of control around food, thinking about food constantly, questioning every food choice & continually wondering whether you’re doing this Intuitive Eating thing ‘right’? 

You’re done with dieting and you can’t do another diet. But the truth is, you obsess over the idea of gaining weight.

In all honesty, you still have no idea HOW to integrate all the things you’re learning into your own life.

It is one thing for your brain to understand Intuitive Eating and body acceptance, but actually embodying it and understanding HOW to practically work it into your life is another.

& despite your best intentions, it feels like things just aren’t getting better. It makes you feel stuck and powerless.

& it’s not because you don’t want to change & have a more free and easy relationship with food and your body.

You want this more than you’ve ever wanted something before. To feel like you could eat without fear, guilt or dread… It just feels so out of reach.

So, why is that?

Diet culture disconnects you from the wisdom of your body and it wants you to believe that you can’t be trusted (and there’s a LOT of money to be made in that distrust!).

I know that you've been taught that you're only safe if you're outsourcing your food decisions and following external food rules, plans, or the advice of ‘health’ and fitness ‘gurus’. Because only *they* know the secrets about how and what to eat in order to be ‘healthy’ right?!

I want you to remember though that you were born knowing how to eat...

When a baby is born, and in their first minutes of life, that precious little human can use their natural instincts to crawl towards the breast and begin feeding. 

It's just that over time, diet culture has disrupted your ability to listen to and trust your body’s inner wisdom. And you begin to forget how incredibly clever your body is and become too scared to listen to what it is telling you.

And the result of this? A disconnection with your own body.

Remember, YOU are the expert of your body. YOU know more about your body’s needs than anyone else possibly could. 

And, your relationship with food and your body doesn’t exist in a vacuum. 

Your beliefs about food and your body didn’t just magically happen!

You have soaked up this messaging through your entire life and internalised these messages.

I’m here to tell you that you are not to blame and you are not ‘broken’. 

This isn’t about you not having enough discipline or willpower. 

Diets are set up to fail and our oppressive and toxic fatphobic culture is set up to make you feel like your body is wrong.

And you can be successful and fulfilled in so many areas of your life, and still feel completely consumed by food and body thoughts.

Here's where I stand:

Dieting isn't self care. Nourishment is self-care.

Your purpose on this earth is not simply to give other people a 'pleasant' aesthetic experience of you. 

Diet culture is just another way to deny women pleasure, and make us feel guilty for desiring pleasure.

Your life is precious and short. 

It’s time to stop being at war with your body and being controlled by food rules and time to start trusting yourself, and your body's inner cues and desires.

You deserve to be free.

And here’s what I know does NOT work …

X Starting another diet or fitness regime in the hopes that it will change the way you feel about yourself, improve your body image or increase your sense of self-worth. I know it *feels* like you’d be happier and more confident. But when your body has changed in the past did you feel a sudden sense of deep inner peace, confidence and joy? Did your self-doubt magically melt away? 

X Blaming and shaming yourself, as this is never an effective way to create meaningful change.

You don’t need more of these things, what you need is to reconnect with and come home to the inner wisdom of your body. Because every time you ignore or deny your hunger you break a sacred sense of trust with your body.

The relationship between you and your body is reciprocal. You are working to trust your body's signals again and your body is working on trusting you to take care of it, to give it enough nourishment, and to listen to it when it speaks to you. 

Learning to recognise, listen to, and take action on your hunger cues is one of the key ways that you begin rebuilding trust with food and your body again. 

The truth of it is… if you don’t make a commitment to change and take action now, you’ll find yourself exactly where you are in 5 years time.

Your body is wise and deeply intelligent. 

It has a deep inner knowing and is the portal to your inner wisdom.

It has so much to teach you and to tell you. 

Your body is your best compass in navigating out of where you are right now, & she is waiting for you.

  • Start feeling more confident in your own skin, and show up as your authentic self so that you can express yourself openly and honestly, speak up in a room full of co-workers, ask for the raise, advocate for yourself, and set better boundaries.

  • Learn how to recognise the way your emotions show up in the body and not simply resist them, so that you can stop living on autopilot and in a state of reactivity, self-judgement and panic.

  • Have a more peaceful and kind relationship with your body as it is today and worry less about what other people think of you, be in the photos & capture precious memories, and even have better sex!

  • Start feeling more confident in your own skin, and show up as your authentic self so that you can express yourself openly and honestly, speak up in a room full of co-workers, ask for the raise, advocate for yourself, and have more fun!

Build up a sense of purpose and worth which has nothing to with your external shell so you can start spending more time living from the inside out and bring the focus back to how YOU experience the world and not how the world experiences you.

And finally become more attuned to the inner wisdom and intelligence of your body so that you can recognise, trust and take action on your inner cues . And when you trust yourself more, feelings of anxiety decrease because you spend less time worrying about every possible ‘what if’ scenario, and what other people think of you.
